We have compare validator in .NET to Compare the value entered by the user in an input control with the value entered in another input control, or with a constant value. Click here explore more on CompareValidator.

I had a unique requirement to validate the Email address in the two controls ignoring space at the end. I explored more and found a solution using the CustomValidator. Click here explore more on CustomValidator.

I have mentioned the code below

Added the following CustomValidator in the page:

<asp:CustomValidator ID=”CompareEmailAddress” runat=”Server” ClientValidationFunction=”CompareEmailAddress” ErrorMessage=”*” EnableClientScript = “true” ></asp:CustomValidator>

JS Function to compare the Email address ignoring space:

function CompareEmailAddress(source,args)
{
email = rtrim(document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_EmailCtl").value) // Getting trimmed email address from FIRST input control
verifyemail = rtrim(document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_VerifyEmailCtl").value) // Getting trimmed email address from SECOND input control
if(email == verifyemail)
{
args.IsValid = true;
}
else
{
args.IsValid =false;
}
}

I frequently used to calculate date difference between two dates. I use to open the calendar and calculate the difference. But now I have found a easier way to calculate the date difference using the SQL DateDiff function

DateDiff returns the number of date and time boundaries crossed between two dates.

Syntax:

DateDiff(datepart, startdate, enddate)

where datepart is the parameter that specifies which part of the date to calculate difference.

datepart can be any one in the following

Datepart

Abbreviations

Year

yy, yyyy

quarter

qq, q

Month

mm, m

dayofyear

dy, y

Day

dd, d

Week

wk, ww

Hour

hh

minute

mi, n

second

ss, s

millisecond

ms

Example:

select datediff(“d”,’03/10/2009′,’03/17/2009′)

will return you 7.

I used mozilla thunderbird for nearly a year now as my Email client. But after the release of Windows Live Messenger, I used both concurrently and finally settled for Windows Live Messenger. I had stored nearly thousands of mails using Thunderbird and was bit worried on importing the mails from Thunderbird to Windows Live Messenger. Finally, I googled and found few solutions.

First I tried the following solution prescribed here. I downloaded Thunderbird add-on from http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/mboximport-en.html and installed the add-on in Thinderbird. Then upon first try I found that I had to export all the folders one by one manually to eml format. I was bit tensed as I thought that the other solutions too could be quite similar.

Then I tried another solution mentioned here. It also mentioned about a add-on in Thunderbird namely SmartSave which can be used to export mails retaining the folder structure. It worked quite well for me. Please follow the instructions which is mentioned in the above link.

Where path = the path where the dll is located and dllname is the dllname.

For Example if a dll say example.dll is located in c:projects directory then run regsvr32 “c:projectsexample.dll”. This will register the dll. By register i mean a entry will be made in the operating system registry .

Now i explored it and found that its useful to improve the performance in executing the query. However there is a disadvantage in using it. The disadvantage is that one may not be sure that they are getting the data which is currently being updated in the Table ie Without lock protection, you cannot be guaranteed that the data isn’t changing during the time that the query is running. I reffered this link and found it prettu useful.

Sitemaps are used to describe the structure of the site so that the site navigation controls such as menu, treeview etc can use it to display the site structure properly. Generally the owner of the site will want to display a separate navigation for anonymous and logged users. For this the menu structure will vary. In this case we can use multiple sitemaps to display the appropriate menu based on user.

For using multiple sitemaps you need to configure the sitemap in the web.config file. We will learn this through an example. Suppose we need to site that allows the logged user to buy the product and the anonymous user is allowed only to browse the product. For this we need to display buy & browse in the menu for the logged user and browse for anonymous user. To implement this we can use multiple sitemaps.

Create a new website and add the two sitemaps for this namely logged and anonymous. In the logged.sitemap add two sitemap nodes, Browse and Buy. In the anonymous.sitemap create only one sitemap node, Browse.

Now configure the two sitemaps in the web.config file. Under System.Web tag add the following sitemap providers as shown below.

<siteMap defaultProvider =”AnonymousUser”>
<providers>
<add
name=”loggedUser”
type=”System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider”
siteMapFile=”~/logged.sitemap” />
<add
name=”AnonymousUser”
type=”System.Web.XmlSiteMapProvider”
siteMapFile=”~/Anonymous.sitemap” />
</providers>
</siteMap>

Note:-

The defaultProvider is assigned to AnonymousUser which will load that menu by default.

Now create a menu control and an asp sitemapdatasource control.

<asp:Menu DataSourceID = “sitemapds” Orientation = “Vertical” runat = “server”>
</asp:Menu>
<asp:SiteMapDataSource ID = “sitemapds” runat = “server” ShowStartingNode = “false” />

In the code behind add the logic to find if the user is logged in or not. Here i have added a button which when clicked will make the user logged in. Now add the code that will assign the change the sitemapprovider to LoggedUser to display the menu when the user is logged.

Protected Sub loginBtn_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles loginBtn.Click
userstatus = “logged”
If userstatus = “logged” Then
sitemapds.SiteMapProvider = “loggedUser”
Else
sitemapds.SiteMapProvider = “AnonymousUser”
End If
End Sub

This is how we configure multiple sitemaps.

Step 1: Create the shortcut for the folder or tool for which you need to create the shortcut.

Step 2: Open the run command and goto \Windows
